My Mother

With each passing day her presence

seems increasingly great,

to my life she delivers balance

without her I dread my fate.

She holds remarkable strength

Yet sacrifices a great deal,

advancing to strenuous lengths

to help me grow and heal.

Before long I’ll be leaving the nest

and worry I’ll get lost,

setting out on my lifelong quest

bombarded by struggle, heartbreak, and frost.

But I will remember my mother’s wisdom

and fight to persevere,

I’ll master her tricks and develop a system

and with that I’ll abandon my fears.

To my mother’s embrace I unfailingly return,

in which my love for her will always burn.
